Preparation for Wed October 29

Great first debate last week. This Wednesday we will be debating the second topic of the November 8 tournament: The District of Columbia should be the 51st state.

I have put together a background brief which is available from this web site.

Click on the topic link in the right column and there is a starter pack for research for the topic

Ahead of Wednesday could you please:

• Read the background pack
• Do any extra research you consider necessary
• Prepare four arguments in favor and and four arguments against the proposition (remember to use the Argument/reason/evidence format ie back your arguments up)
• I suggest you use a flow sheet to summarise your arguments and use this flow sheet for the debate
  
• Be ready to debate the topic in the Wednesday class
  
  Next week is a short week and we need to "practice" the two remaining topics . If students cld start researching these topics as well and writing out pro and against arguments that would be useful. I have linked to a good summary of arguments for the third topic (The electoral college should be abolished ) on the Chatterbox site.
